Notice to all Applicants:
By renting a mailbox, the applicant (hereinafter "Applicant") and LSI Student Service Centre (hereinafter "LSI") agree to be governed by the standard terms and conditions set forth below.

1. Photo Identification & Advance Payment

Applicant agrees no mail will be released until he/she provides government-issued photo ID, completes the official application form, and pays the required mailbox rental fee in advance.

2. Agency Appointment & Mail Pickup

By completing the application form, Applicant appoints LSI as agent for the receipt of mail for a period not to exceed that for which rent has been paid in advance. Unless it is pre-arranged with the LSI Centre, Applicant will pick up mail at least once each month or make other suitable arrangements in advance with LSI. The LSI Centre will provide a mailbox key to the applicant who may obtain his/her mail during the business hours posted by LSI. Should the applicant appoint another person or organization, LSI shall assume that possession of a key is evidence of authority to collect mail.

3. Key Deposit & Legal Relationship (Bailment)

The key loaned to the applicant shall require a refundable cash/electronic deposit ($15 per key), and remains the property of LSI and shall not be duplicated or modified by the applicant. The key deposit shall be refunded upon return of the key within seven (7) days of termination of service. The applicant understands that the relationship of the parties hereto is one of bailment* and not landlord and tenant.

* Bailment is the temporary placement of control over, or possession of Personal Property by one person (the bailor) into the hands of another (the bailee), for a designated purpose upon which the parties have agreed.

4. Canada Post Delivery Disclaimer

LSI is not engaged in the delivery of mail and cannot be responsible for failure of the Canadian Postal Service or third-party carriers to deliver mail or to deliver it in a timely fashion or undamaged condition.

5. Compliance with Postal & Statutory Regulations

The applicant agrees to use services in accordance with LSI rules and in compliance with all Canada Postal regulations, as well as local, provincial and federal statutes and regulations. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of service without notice, refund or mail forwarding.

6. Privacy & Law Enforcement Cooperation

Information provided by the applicant will be kept and will not knowingly be disclosed without the applicant's prior consent, except for law enforcement or postal operation purposes, in which case LSI intends to cooperate fully. Law enforcement is further clarified to include all municipal, regional, provincial or federal agencies or their representatives.

7. Authorized Volume & Mail Piece Limits

Mail will be accepted according to box capacity:

  • (a) Small-sized Box (Size A): For up to two (2) persons or organizations and no more than 75 pieces delivered per month.
  • (b) Mid-sized Box (Size B): For up to two (2) persons or organizations and no more than 125 pieces delivered per month.
  • (c) Large-sized Box (Size C): For up to two (2) persons or organizations and no more than 175 pieces delivered per month.

Each person/organization must complete the application form and provide photo identification. If the applicant consistently receives substantially more mail than can be placed in a single lockbox, LSI reserves the right to require the applicant to rent a larger size box or one or more additional boxes. Charges for service are based upon average daily volume and activity. Special circumstances (e.g., high number of parcels, oversized packages) may require assessment of additional fees.

8. Indemnification

The applicant agrees to protect, indemnify and hold harmless LSI from and against any and all claims, demands and causes of action of any nature whatsoever relative to use of LSI facilities or services.

9. Limitation of Liability

Should LSI commit or fail to commit any act that results in disruption of service and applicant thereby suffers a loss, LSI's liability shall be limited to not more than the rental fees paid by applicant for service not yet received. LSI shall not be liable for incidental or consequential damages.

10. Registered, Insured, and C.O.D. Mail

LSI will accept registered, insured, or C.O.D. mail or parcels on behalf of the applicant. Full, advance payment of C.O.D. charges must be made to LSI prior to acceptance of any C.O.D. packages.

11. Advance Fee Payment & No Proration

LSI rental fees are due and payable in advance and notice thereof will be placed in applicant's mailbox. No other notice will be required. Failure to pay such fees when due may result in disruption or cancellation of services. LSI does not prorate fees and does not provide refunds in the event of cancellation by applicant.

12. Mandatory Canadian Address Designation ("PMB" or "#")

The applicant shall use only the address designation "PMB" or "#" to designate their address. NO OTHER DESIGNATION IS VALID. Especially excluded is the use of suite, apt., dept., or other designators. Canada Post may refuse to deliver any piece of mail that does not include the PMB or # sign designation.

13. Termination of Service & Forwarding Policy

Upon termination of services by LSI or failure to pay rent in advance by applicant, LSI shall not make the applicant's mail available without payment theretofore. The applicant understands that the Canadian Postal Service will not forward or return private box mail without payment, and will not accept a standard Change of Address. At termination of service, if applicant wishes for mail to be forwarded, applicant shall provide a forwarding address and pay the required fee.

Key Forfeiture & Overdue Rule

LSI will automatically close the mailbox if payment is past due for 1 week. The customer has only 1 week from the due date to return the mailbox key in order to get a key deposit refund, after which the key deposit refund is forfeited. It is the customer's responsibility to make payments on or before due dates.
